Led UX design for VirtuaBroker’s crypto exchange app, simplifying transactions for beginners. Optimized user flows to drive adoption, improve conversion, and enhance engagement.
As the sole UX designer for Virtuabroker’s crypto exchange app, my challenge was to work with the team to create an easy-to-use platform for beginners. This case study highlights how we simplified the process of buying and selling cryptocurrencies through user-centered design and iterative testing.
The team consisted of the CTO, two full-stack developers, and myself as the UX designer. With an iterative, user-centered approach, we aimed to create a streamlined app focused only on the essential features that users would need for buying and selling assets, and tracking their portfolio.
Virtuabroker offers various products related to cryptocurrencies, and one of the key products is the Crypto Exchange App, which I was responsible for designing. As the sole UX designer, my goal was to create a simple, intuitive app for users unfamiliar with Web3, blockchain, or managing crypto assets.
We wanted to avoid overwhelming users with complexity. The focus was on making it easy for beginners to buy and sell crypto, while keeping the interface clean and intuitive. The main dashboard was designed to show only the most important information:
– Balance overview
– Assets and portfolio
– Profit/loss summary
– Recommended actions
I conducted extensive research to understand what was essential for users who may not fully grasp the complexities of buying crypto. The goal was to simplify these processes. I regularly presented my findings and designs to the CTO, ensuring alignment with the team’s objectives.
Through multiple iterations, I focused on improving key flows like:
– Depositing and withdrawing funds
– Buying crypto assets
– Checking account balances (dashboard)
– Viewing transaction history
The app’s design prioritized mobile-first functionality, knowing that most users would primarily interact with the app on their phones. I created and tested a prototype to observe how users interacted with these flows and gathered valuable feedback to refine the design.
During user testing, I built an interactive prototype to get real-time feedback and better understand user behavior. We used this to fine-tune the main features, ensuring they were straightforward and easy to use for our target audience. While our budget was limited, which restricted the scope of testing, we made the most of available resources and found creative ways to gather valuable insights from potential users to achieve our desired results.
The main focus areas of the app included:
– Deposit and withdrawal flows
– Buying and selling cryptocurrencies
– Dashboard with balance and portfolio overview
– Transaction history
– Additional features like onboarding and settings were carefully designed to complement the core functionalities, creating a seamless experience.
This project gave me a deep understanding of how crypto exchanges work. I also learned how to communicate effectively with the team to achieve the desired results, ensuring the app was user-friendly for people new to cryptocurrency.
Align your goals with exceptional user experiences.
